Kitchen Quilts

My passion for Kitchen Quilts, having 1- fabric TOP, 2- BATTING, 3- BACKING, 3- QUILTED, and 5- BINDING as in Appliance covers, tea cozies, PlaceMats, chef hats,HotPanHolders, glovens, grill gloves, adult/baby bibs continues...( "Americana" books, papers, objects, facts, etc. Having to do with America its people and it's history.) Please look at YouTube for Velia Lauerman , Hudson, Michigan and add your reaction. FlatRock,Mi museum hosted a lecture and workshop for KITCHEN QUILTS by Velia yesterday June 10. We used cutters of appliquéd quilts, pre printed fabrics and the like. Velia also added the Cutters could be restored with appliqué instead of not using the complete wonderful piece for a toaster cover. A BIG BIG hit.

  1. The flatrockMuseum workshop/lecture was exciting to say the least. KITCHEN QUILTS were designed and constructed with CUTTERS. I call them "A LITTLE BIT of history". For a toaster cover the FLYING GEESE are shown front & back. A novice seamstress who likes anything NOT perfect completed the work in less than 2 hours. Velia instructed making a yo yo without a circle...A square leaving corners to pad the yo yo and stitch long stitches using double quilting thread was a quickie. DO We need to waste our time making round circles ? NOT !
